about

IN THIS, the 10th track on the album; we describe the internal conflict between Toomin and the hive-mind creature 'Father'. Toomin is the sole survivor of the attack on the ship, and as such, is trapped in a mental simulation by father. Father is delighted to have another living sentient creature to converse with, and he creates a mental workspace in which he forces Toomin to play games in various scenarios, often derived from the memories of the captured. Father often takes on the form of Menno, accessing the various Ketran corpses' memories to recreate constructs of Toomin's fallen brethren. Toomin reluctantly plays, but loses every game against father, over and over; this slowly gives way to an ever-present existential dread. When Toomin refuses to play, he experiences the abject horror of being left to drift in an ocean of corpses, for years, with only the mutilated bodies of his dearest friends for company, until he acquiesces and continues to play Father's games. By chance, he glimpses the path to victory within the game of music, through a species called the Unemites, one of Father's many acquisitions. Music changes Toomin profoundly, and with his mastery of the game of music, he is finally able to turn the tables on Father, winning game after game until Father retreats and leaves Toomin to float; However, Toomin is able to manipulate the tethered connection to Father to begin absorbing his captive minds, and eventually Father himself; Toomin escapes his tethers, and as he surfaces, he struggles to command the many new minds he's absorbed. Eventually, using knowledge from the various minds he's absorbed, he is able to craft a powerful bioship from the wreckage of the other captives, and, destroying the blue moon in the process, leaves the system behind. With this, Toomin begins his transcendence into a biomechanical, intergalactic being of immense strength, and embarks on his journey to find his place in the universe as the cosmic do-gooder, adopting his gaming moniker Ellimist

lyrics

Father Lyrics:
Father is all!
forced to fight, eternally ‘gainst a Menno from my memories
A living corpse, never decaying
The endless maw
forever tethered to the tendrils of the memory
Father is all
It’s been lonely, with only the dead to keep me company
What is it that you want?
You’re a gamer, are you not?
Well, I simply wish to play a game...Shall we immerse?
On the other side
Clinging to a miscue
only from me can demise come slowly into view
I must set them free!
The Unemites are the key
And the end to this eternal misery
I MUST END IT
Step into my lair, said the Dreth to the Chorkant
You’ve given me the tools I need to lead you to oblivion
Step into my lair said the Dreth to the Chorkant
You’ve given me the tools I need to lead you to the end
Over and over I best you, and
Over and Over, I’m left to rot
Over and Over, I’m left in a field of death I cannot escape from
Ov-er and ov-er and ov-er, and ov-er and ov-er and ov-er and
The game is all
forced to fight, eternally ‘gainst a Menno from my memories
A living corpse never decaying
The endless maw
Forever tethered to the tendrils of the memories
Father is all
How long until you realize?
How long until you see that I’ve won...shall we immerse?
ON THE OTHER SIDE
In the end, you are nothing
A parasitic hAive-mind
Of planeAtary scale
A being without meaning
And in the end I am becoming
All that you once were and more
A billion minds in one;
I have become the multitude!
The tendrils had penetrated deep, and when I finally freed myself, it nearly killed me
As I surfaced, every mind that I had acquired from father cried out in a thousand languages at once
I was overwhelmed, and in the end, Menno was right after all
I had to adapt, or die
Ov-er and ov-er and ov-er, and ov-er and ov-er and ov-er, EYUH!
